Students present generous award!
Students from the Chapter began enthusiastic service to WOW Produce Pantry in November 2016 and throughout the 2016/2017 season, have collectively served over 142,000 pounds of fresh, nutritious produce to 1138 Tristate households. Their devotion has shown through with early, Saturday morning dedication in inclement weather and extenuating circumstances. It has been a pleasure serving alongside prolific smiles and a steadfast hard work ethic. The Mohave High School FCCLA Chapter has gone above and beyond with group themed service to the market. They even made their own ‘branded’ aprons and came dressed as elves for the Christmas market!
Our food-desert community has a 37% rate of food insecurity and 27% childhood poverty rate. Over 80% of our school age kids are on the ‘free-lunch’ program. The WOW Produce Pantry allows unrestricted access for families to choose up to 60-lbs of ‘rescued, blemished seconds’ for free. The utilization of what would be considered billions of pounds of food waste is a labor-intensive process. The Mohave High School Chapter has made a considerable difference in our community by providing tenacious efforts conscientiously culling produce, lugging boxes and providing respectful service with poise and dignity to members of our community.
We have been impressed by their commitment and love to see them recognized for their loyal service and dedication to the NoW-MOM food distribution program. We want to thank MHS FCCLA ECE Chapter students for their generous contribution of time and laborious efforts feeding our community.
