Nominate for Community Achievement Awards
Jul 6, 2012
LAUGHLIN — It’s time once again to nominate outstanding individuals, groups and organizations in the Colorado River Region. As the Laughlin Chamber of Commerce accepts nominations for the 2012 event that recognizes those that contribute to the quality of life in the river communities, think about folks such as:
William Knowles – the 2011 Humanitarian Award recipient – whose commitment to helping others shows when he uses his own funds to make sure every child that is enrolled in the Elks’ Clothe-A-Child program is covered to receive $100 each to shop or when he is installing an air conditioner in a home for a terminally ill person so they have a cool sanctuary in the summer months. Those are only a few of the extraordinary community outreach contributions where Knowles will not say no.
Or consider 2011 Citizen of the Year Debbie Dauenhauer, executive director of Southern Nevada Transportation Coalition. Never a month goes by when her team does not step up for the needy with special programs for medical transportation, Meals on Wheels delivery, and so much more. In July 2010 she helped form the SNTC River Fund and solicited funding to assist the needy in the Tri-state area. Dauenhauer identifies the needs of the community and finds solutions.
And of course, there are organizations making a difference such as Caring Hearts Food Ministry – the 2011 Community Service Organization Top Achiever, Marci Burke. Caring Hearts brought in Angel Food Ministry which helped reduce their costs of food and enabled Caring Hearts to not only give a “hand-out” but provide a “hand-up” to those in need. The money saved on food allowed those on limited budgets to purchase medications they previously could not afford.
Don’t miss this opportunity to nominate a deserving organization, business or person that makes a difference in the Colorado River Region. There are so many quiet heroes who give their time, energy and money to the river city communities.
“As the chamber gears up to accept nominations for the 2012 Community Achievement Awards, take a few moments to reflect on a person, group or business that you would like to nominate,” said Connie Davis, executive director of the chamber. “We are hopeful as we begin the nomination process; each of you nominates at least one person or group for one category so we can continue to be inspired.”
Nomination forms for the 2012 Community Achievement Awards are available at the Laughlin Chamber at 1585 S. Casino Drive or the Laughlin and Bullhead City libraries, Mutual of Omaha Banks in Laughlin and Bullhead City, Bullhead Area Chamber, city of Bullhead offices, Mission Bank, Laughlin Government Center and on the Laughlin Chamber’s website at www.laughinchamber.com .
